Do Tea Party principles of smaller government work with Rand Paul's latest push for amnesty on Fox News? PHONE & FAX HIM some advice.
DEAR FRIENDS,
Our computers show you have checked your Interest Survey as identifying with the Tea Party. If so, you are the kind of voter across the nation who has a chance to help Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) slow down on his pro-amnesty tour before a political meltdown.
His latest comments on Fox News with Chris Wallace are quite disconcerting. (See interview below.)
While saying he wants immigrants who don't want welfare, he describes the amnesty that he wants in a way that would seem to add trillions of dollars of welfare and Obamacare spending and probably the same to the national debt.
Sen. Paul still has a lot of room to clarify his several pro-amnesty statements of the last two weeks so as to show how he would keep from violating basic Tea Party principles of working toward less government spending, deficits and debt.
But he needs your help before it is too late.
Sen. Paul even seemed to indicate that if he runs for President in 2016 that favoring amnesty will be an important part of his appeal.
Phoning Is Easy & Powerful
Rand Paul needs to hear a lot more Tea Party voices.
Thanks to all who sent faxes last week after the Rand Paul op-ed announcing his conversion to being pro-amnesty. But he needs to hear from you again every time he makes another pro-amnesty statement.

If you've never phoned a congressional office, you may feel nervous. Don't be.
When you click on the Phone button above, you will see some talking points to choose from and advice for making the call.
You will be talking to a low-level staffer who merely will want to know who you are and tally what your call was about. Many people talk for no more than 30 seconds in making their point. Or you may want to talk longer. Be courteous and state your opinion as if it counts -- which it does because Sen. Paul is talking about running for President and will need your help in the Primaries.
THE CHRIS WALLACE FOX INTERVIEW
FOX's Chris Wallace asked him what his Tea Party Response to the State of the Union meant on immigration:
PAUL: "I do support immigration reform. I do support the concept of telling the 11 million people here that if you want to work, and you don't want to be on welfare, we're willing to find a place for you in America."
First of all, you notice how willing he is to give illegal aliens the main thing they broke the law to get -- a job. Sen. Paul is willing to put all these illegal aliens ahead of 20 million Americans who can't find a full-time job. He lets the illegal aliens immediately keep their jobs in construction, service and manufacturing where 95% of them work and where so many jobless Americans want to work.
He gives a little hope by saying they have to not want welfare. But the only way to do that is to never give the amnestied illegal aliens a green card or permanent residence. I've seen no proposals by anybody that would do such a thing. Maybe you can get some clarification and let us know.
But here's the problem even if he comes up with a way to bar all the amnestied illegal aliens from welfare: The amnesty ensures that millions of Americans will not have those jobs and will remain dependent upon taxpayers to subsidize many parts of their lives.
The next quote is really troubling because he says he only has one condition:
PAUL: "As far as the bipartisan [Gang of Eight] proposal, I'll support it on one condition, and that's that we have a report that says the border is being secured but that report comes back and is voted on in Congress. And this is my idea I have been promoting and it will be an amendment or substitute for their bill, is that each year, over a five or six- year period, we have to have a report by an investigator general from the GAO that comes back and says, the border is secure."
The bi-partisan Gang of Eight proposal is almost identical to the President's proposal in opening up the whole welfare system to 11 million illegal aliens almost immediately.
So, despite his first comment about illegal aliens who "don't want to be on welfare," he doesn't make denying them the trillions of dollars of benefits a condition.
His only condition is border security which doesn't even deal with stopping future illegal aliens from taking jobs.
To see four areas besides border security that Rand Paul needs to address, take a look at this blog:
CHRIS WALLACE: "Finally, let's talk about 2016. How serious are you about running -- you know what I'm going to ask -- running for president? And would it be to make a point as your father did, in his presidential runs, or would it be to win?"
PAUL: "I would absolutely not run unless it were to win. You know, points have been made and we'll continue to make points, but I think the country really is ready for the narrative coming, libertarian Republican narrative, also because we have been losing as a national party. We are doing fine in congressional seats but we're becoming less and less of a national party because we don't win on the West Coast, we don't win in New England. We really struggle around the Great Lakes."
PAUL: "I think people want a party that's a little bit less aggressive on foreign policy, still believes in a strong national defense but less aggressive. They want -- the young people want politicians who don't want them in jail for 20 years for a nonviolent drug position charge. So, they want a little bit different phase. I think people want a little different phase on immigration frankly. They don't want someone somebody who wants to round people up, put in camps and send them back to Mexico."
So, apparently the way to having more national appeal is to put more Americans out of work by keeping jobs in the hands of illegal aliens.
I'm particularly disturbed by Sen. Paul's attempt to characterize the majority Tea Party opinion against amnesty as wanting to "round people up, put in camps and send them back to Mexico." That is an attempt to create a straw man that simply doesn't exist. Not a single person in Congress, for example, has suggested such a thing. And I'm not aware of any Tea Party leader saying it.
But Sen. Paul seems to be saying that the choice is between mass round-ups/deportations and giving all illegal aliens permanent work permits and residence.
I hope that your thousands of calls and faxes to his office will help his staff start to focus on the gigantic costs of an amnesty. Although illegal aliens do cost taxpayers a lot of money, all studies show that their cost will skyrocket once they are legalized and encouraged to use all federal, state and local social welfare programs.
Ask Sen. Paul's staff if they can provide details on any way that that would not happen.
GOOD LUCK,
