This week you have an opportunity to make a difference by calling your own Member of Congress. Recent news reports of unprecedented levels of children illegally entering the United States in hopes of receiving Deferred Action are a sad and dangerous illustration of how promises of future amnesties simply encourage more would-be illegal aliens to put their lives at risk to come here illegally in hopes of receiving amnesty. As of April 2014, more than 560,000 illegal aliens have received DACA, according to USCIS data. Border Patrol agents are reporting (and have been quoted in mainstream news sources such as the New York Times) that some of the children apprehended crossing the border illegally have said they are trying to get in to the U.S. before time runs out to qualify for amnesty. Whether they intended it or not, President Obama and other other Members of Congress who have been championing amnesty bear some responsibility for this recent surge in illegal immigration and the fate of these illegal alien children. If they were instead enforcing current immigration laws and talking about immigration changes that reduced foreign-worker competition and held outlaw employers accountable, very few parents would find it worth the risk to send their children across the border illegally and alone. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.), and Mario Diaz Balart (R-Fla.) are polling their fellow House Republicans to measure support for moving an amnesty bill before the August recess. Reportedly, if they can get enough Republicans on board with their plan, House Leadership will do a formal whip count and move an immigration bill to the floor of the House before the August recess. This latest development confirms rumors we began hearing a few months ago that the House GOP Leadership might bring an amnesty bill to the floor after the filing deadlines for the 2014 primaries. Now that most of the deadlines have passed, the push for a House-passed amnesty is heating up. Confirmation of these reports came again this morning in a Breitbart News article by Jonathan Strong quoting Rep. Mark Amodei (R-N.V.) describing a "quiet whip effort" underway. "They started a quiet whip count, trying to gauge what the support was for doing something on immigration within the Republican conference. We want to see where we stand on that whip count because, obviously, the Speaker does not want to get out in front of it and then have the limb sawed off behind him," Amodei said. Apparently these amnesty Republicans have so little respect for their constituents, especially the unemployed ones, that now that most appear likely to win their elections in November, they feel free to move forward catering to the well-funded lobbyists who are pushing for amnesty and more foreign workers. As Chris described in his newsletter on Friday, this is the biggest threat we have faced this year. Even if the House passes a limited bill, it could be used as a vehicle to tack on the Senate-passed Schumer-Obama amnesty (S. 744). Of course, this bill would have to go back to the House for approval, but with 192 Democrats already signed on to a discharge petition to bring the House version of S. 744 to the floor for a vote, only a handful of Republican votes would be needed for passage. Muslim Mohammed Ali Hits Police Officer with Car in Oregon

"I was sitting in my car filling out a citation and suddenly I was thrown forward." These are the words of Deputy Justin Kinyon who was struck by another vehicle while conducting a traffic stop on Lancaster Dive NE near Glendale Avenue NE at about 1:00 p.m., yesterday. 

Deputy Kinyon was pulled to the right in his fully marked patrol car with his emergency lights activated. According to witnesses, Mohammed Ali, age 53, of Salem was driving his Ford, Windstar van in the right hand lane as he approached Deputy Kinyon's traffic stop. Mr. Ali attempted to move over into the left lane to go around the traffic stop but did not see the vehicle beside him. 

This forced the second vehicle into the turn lane and Mr. Ali took evasive action to avoid hitting the second vehicle. Mr. Ali over corrected and crashed into Deputy Kinyon. Thankfully neither Deputy Kinyon nor Mr. Ali were seriously injured in the collision. 

An investigation of the crash was completed by Marion County Traffic Safety Team Sergeant Craig Cunningham. As a result of his actions Mr. Ali was issued a citation for driving without a license and careless driving. Mr. Ali was operating his vehicle with an instruction permit and not a valid Oregon license. Deputy Kinyon did not return to duty after the crash and Mr. Ali was taken to the Salem Hospital for evaluation. 

Sergeant Cunningham wants to take time and remind drivers that when you encounter an emergency vehicle on the side of the roadway with its emergency lights activated please follow these simple steps. Please, slow your vehicle by at least five miles per hour and move to the left if there is another lane available and that lane is clear, failure to do so could result in a fine of $260.00. 

According to Sergeant Cunningham this law was enacted after an Oregon State Trooper was killed while on a traffic stop on Interstate 5 just south of Salem approximately 10 years ago.

Oregon Legislature Poised To Hijack Ballot Title Process with HB 4054 Bill Undermines Citizen Participation and Confuses Voters

On Tuesday, the House Rules Committee passed a bill, HB 4054, that seeks to rewrite the ballot title and related language for Referendum 301. This measure will appear on the November 2014 ballot and asks voters to approve or disapprove SB 833, which was passed by the Oregon Legislature last spring and grants driver's licenses to illegal aliens. Recently, the state attorney general certified the ballot title and related language to clearly state that SB 833 grants driver's licenses to illegal aliens. Proponents in the Legislature of driver’s licenses for illegal aliens now want to change the ballot title and related language to hide this fact to confuse voters and undermine citizen participation in the upcoming election. Please call your representative and senator now and tell them you won't stand for this underhanded and unprincipled political stunt. Tell them to oppose HB 4054! The Legislature has never before done this with respect to a bill referred by the people! The victim, 19-year-old Drew Christopher Stokes of Tigard, was treated for several non-life-threatening stab wounds at a Portland hospital. Detectives learned that the two did not know each other and the suspect contacted the victim on the MAX train and the encounter escalated into a stabbing. Central Precinct officers did find a victim in the area that was stabbed. The victim was taken to a local area hospital with non life threatening injuries. Officers have taken one suspect into custody and detectives are in the beginning stages of investigating this incident. It is unknown at this time why the two individuals initially got into a confrontation or if they knew one another. Transit Police are assisting officers from Central Precinct.
