Obama: Immigration Enforcement "Isn't Smart"

President Obama told a group of law enforcement officials

last week that enforcing immigration laws "isn't smart."

Immigration enforcement is "just not a good use of our resources. It's not smart. It doesn't make sense," Obama said. (See Daily Caller, May 13, 2014) 

\The President went on to claim that interior enforcement of immigration laws prevents police from "chasing gang bangers and going after violent criminals." (See Weekly Standard, May 13, 2014)

President Obama made the comments during a meeting with law enforcement officers at the White House during D.C.'s annual "police week.

 Obama also used the meeting to urge law enforcement to pressure House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) into passing "comprehensive" immigration reform. Telling the officials it is important for the Speaker to hear from "unexpected voices," Obama declared that passing amnesty legislation is "the right thing to do for our safety and security." (Id.)

The President's rebuke of immigration enforcement occurred on the same day that pro-amnesty activists pressured leading Senate Democrats to demand that the Obama Administration halt deportations. The group — wearing shirts that read, "Obama Deports Parents!" — went to the offices of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Gang of Eight Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Michael Bennet (D-CO), demanding an end to immigration enforcement. An Oregon State Police (OSP) traffic stop last Wednesday led to the arrest of two  mexican breeders  from Phoenix, Arizona after the trooper found approximately 5 pounds of heroin concealed in Valentine teddy bear baskets in the car's trunk. The OSP Drug Enforcement Section is continuing the investigation.

On January 30, 2013 at approximately 6:40 p.m., an OSP senior trooper stopped a 2005 Honda Accord displaying Arizona license plates off the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near milepost 377 for failing to signal lane changes. The car's two occupants were identified as driver SONLA MARQUEZ-LOZANO, age 22, and passenger YEDID ZAMUDIO-VAZQUEZ, age 20, both from Phoenix, Arizona.

Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop resulted in the trooper discovering approximately 5 pounds of heroin concealed in two Valentine teddy bear baskets found in the trunk. Estimated value of the seized heroin is $200,000.

Both women were arrested without incident and lodged in the Malheur County Jail for Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance - Heroin.

An Oregon State Police (OSP) traffic stop Thursday morning near Ashland led to the arrest of a California man and subsequent seizure of over 12 pounds of crystal methamphetamine.

According to Lieutenant Kelly Collins, on January 17, 2013 at approximately 8:40 a.m., an OSP trooper stopped a 2006 Nissan Altima displaying California license plates northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 11 for a speed violation. The lone occupant was identified as JESUS PAZ FLORES, age 28, from Adelanto, California.

Subsequent investigation related to the traffic stop led to the seizure approximately 12.5 pounds of crystal methamphetamine concealed in the vehicle. Estimated value of the seized methamphetamine is approximately $190,000.

FLORES was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Jackson County Jail for Unlawful Manufacture, Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine.

OSP troopers were assisted by OSP Drug Enforcement Section detectives and Rogue Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) team.

An Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper's traffic stop last Wednesday along Highway 97 on the south end of Klamath Falls led the arrest of two men after more than one pound of methamphetamine was found concealed in their vehicle. A follow-up investigation by OSP Drug Enforcement Section has reached a point allowing release of this information.

On January 16, 2013 at approximately 10:57 a.m., an OSP trooper stopped a 2008 Chevrolet Impala displaying California license plates for an unspecified traffic violation northbound on Highway 97 near milepost 278. The car's two occupants were identified as driver ANTONIO PANTOJA-SANCHEZ, age 31, from Pasco, Washington, and passenger JORGE GARCIA-MENDOZA, age 26, address not provided.

Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led to the discovery by a drug detection canine of approximately 1.25 pounds of methamphetamine concealed inside the vehicle. Estimated value of the seized methamphetamine is $18,000.

They were taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Klamath County Jail for Unlawful Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine. Both men are still in custody at the jail.

The Clatsop County Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the Seaside Police Department and Astoria Police Department executed multiple search warrants in Astoria and Seaside Friday afternoon, resulting in the arrest of Leland James Wilson, 34, of Astoria.
Due to citizen complaints, Drug Task Force Detectives began an investigation of Wilson and confirmed Wilson to be responsible for distributing considerable quantities of Marijuana within the community. Detectives contacted and executed a search warrant on Wilson, in Seaside pursuant to a traffic stop. A 17 year old female Astoria High School student, Wilson's daughter, was also contacted in the vehicle during school hours. Marijuana packaged for sale and cash were seized. It was learned the juvenile daughter was allegedly distributing marijuana within the school under the direction of Wilson, who collected the cash in return.
During the execution of the search warrant on Wilson's person and vehicle, detectives discovered photos of Wilson holding what appeared to be pounds of Marijuana. Detectives seized close to four ounces of marijuana (1/4pound) hashish, digital scales, packaging materials, drug records and two hundred and thirty dollars in cash. Drug records seized confirmed the sale of marijuana to minors.
Detectives then served and executed a search warrant at Wilson's residence, 16 Nimitz #3 in Astoria. At the residence, detectives seized additional marijuana and packaging material.
Wilson was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Delivery of Marijuana and Delivery of Marijuana within a thousand feet of a school. Wilson was lodged at the Clatsop County Jail.
The Juvenile associated with the case was referred to the Juvenile department on the charges of possession and delivery of a controlled substance. DHS was notified.

Drug trafficker arrested in Clark County

The Clark-Vancouver Regional Drug Task Force seized a large amount of methamphetamine and cocaine early Monday morning following a traffic stop related to an ongoing investigation into the trafficking of methamphetamine and cocaine in Clark County.

At about 12:30 Monday morning, detectives with the drug task force stopped a vehicle driven by Damian Tapia-Arellano, 49, of Vancouver, Washington. Detectives searched his car and located approximately 8 pounds of methamphetamine and a half pound of cocaine.

Following the traffic stop, detectives conducted a search at Tapia-Arellano's residence, 7421 Delaware Lane, Vancouver, where a small amount of drugs and other evidence related to drug trafficking was found.

Tapia-Arellano was booked at the Clark County Jail on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

This arrest is the result of a months-long investigation into Tapia-Arellano who is suspected of trafficking in large amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine. It is believed that he was importing large amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine from California, with Mexico being the ultimate source of drugs
