More Than 40 Lawmakers Urge Sec. Napolitano to Stop Releasing Detained Illegal Aliens

More than 40 lawmakers sent a letter to DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano urging her to stop releasing detained illegal aliens because of budget cuts caused by the sequester. The group of lawmakers said that releasing the illegal aliens "under the guise of saving money is extraordinary, unprecedented and dangerous."

 

The lawmakers also demanded that Sec. Napolitano answer questions, including:

• The total number of detainees released and the location of the releases;
• Plans for future releases and those locations;
• The name of the DHS official who authorized the mass releases;
• The criteria used to determine eligibility for release;
• The number of release denials and the reasons for the denials;
• A list of other budget cuts being made by DHS;
• The budget savings of releasing the detainees; and

• How DHS is tracking the released illegal aliens.

The letter's signees were Reps. Portland Police Bureau Traffic Investigators have identified the suspect and recovered the van connected with the Thursday morning hit and run death of 56-year-old Tommy Gann on Southeast Holgate Boulevard.

57-year-old Victorio Nogueda-Berrera is wanted for Felony Hit and Run. He is described as 5'11" tall and 200 pounds.

The white Ford Econoline he was driving has been located and is no longer of interest.

Details of the ongoing investigation will not be released at this time.

West Linn is ranked the 36th-safest city in a new list of the top 100 issued by a real estate information service. The list, by NeighborhoodScout, lists Lake Oswego as the 84th-safest among cities with at least 25,000 residents.

NeighborhoodScout compiles information on livability factors such as traffic, public schools, appreciation rates and real estate costs for would-be buyers and sellers. For the safety rankings, NeighborhoodScout compared the total number of property and violent crimes reported to the FBI in 2011 per 1,000 residents -- the latest final figures available.
The safest city was found to be Franklin, Mass., a city of 31,635 about half-way between Boston and Providence, R.I.
The most-dangerous city is listed as East St. Louis, Ill., a city of 27,027 directly across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Mo.
In West Linn, NeighborhoodScout noted 10 violent crimes and 268 property crimes, for a total of 278 incidents.  The safest neighborhoods were found to be Willamette Drive/Marylhurst, City Center, Robinwood, Shadowood and Willamette.
In Lake Oswego, NeighborhoodScout noted 19 violent crimes and 502 property crimes for a total of 521. The safest neighborhoods were Forsberg Road/Suncreek Drive, South Shore Boulevard, City Center and South Lake Oswego.
Violent crimes used in the tally include murder, rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault. Property crimes include burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft.
NeighborhoodScout intends to update its list when the final 2012 figures are available from the FBI.

Sen. Schumer's PRO-amnesty petition had a big day today and seems to be picking up momentum.
But the nation's top ANTI-amnesty petition has even more momentum. My great thanks to all of you who were part of adding more than 30,000 new signers today!
For the first time, the ANTI-amnesty petition has more signers than the one backing the Gang of Eight's PRO-amnesty plan.
As of 9 p.m. Monday:
69,458 signers of NumbersUSA ANTI-amnesty petition
53,172 signers of Schumer's PRO-amnesty petition supporting Gang of Eight
We're in a public relations battle with Sen. Schumer (D-NY) who started his petition a week earlier than us to show the media that there is overwhelming support among the public for the bi-partisan Gang of Eight's proposal to immediately give amnesty and U.S. work permits to 11 million illegal aliens.
Because NumbersUSA led the largest grassroots mobilization in the killing of amnesties in the House in the summer of 2006, and in the Senate in spring of 2007, autumn of 2007 and winter of 2010, the media tend to look to NumbersUSA's petitions to compare their strength with the petitions of those pushing for more open borders.

The Gang of Eight petition is being promoted in Daily Kos and other large-viewership websites. Our ANTI-amnesty petition is going to need lots of similar help if we are to show the media and Members of Congress that the passion of the American people is on the side of preventing an 8th amnesty.
We are expecting a wave of new PRO-amnesty signers Tuesday night after the President uses the State of the Union address to promote more foreign workers while claiming his top priority is putting more Americans back to work. And who knows what Sen. Rubio (R-Fla.) will say in his Republican rebuttal on TV -- he's a member with Schumer in the Gang of Eight.
A public opinion poll released last week found that about three times as many Americans strongly oppose an amnesty as strongly support one.
We need to reflect that on these petitions. This ANTI-amnesty petition really ought to have triple the signatures as the one for the Gang of Eight. At the very least, please make sure you have made it clear which petition and public policy you support.

2013-_Johnson_29.jpgOn Friday February 8, 2013, at 11:18 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to Southwest 16th Avenue and Clay Street on the report of a pedestrian robbery.

As officers were enroute additional information was broadcast that the suspects were two African American males and one African American female and that one of them was armed with a box cutter.

Officers located three people at Southwest 16th Avenue and Jefferson Street that matched the description of the suspects and they were taken into custody. The victim positively identified all three people as being the suspects who robbed him minutes earlier.

The suspects were identified as 32-year-old Paul Ray Hargrow, 29-year-old Jeremiah Antaiwan Johnson, and a 26-year-old female.

The victim's property and the box cutter were located nearby and recovered by police.

Hargrow was charged with Robbery in the First Degree as well as a Parole Violation. Johnson was charged with Robbery in the First Degree. The 26-year-old female was released without charges at this time.

Hargrow and Johnson were booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Monday.

Smiles are a little brighter and mouths are a little healthier for 200 children in Tillamook and Columbia counties thanks to a partnership involving the Northwest Regional Education Service District (NWRESD) and numerous community stakeholders.

The new collaboration focuses on reducing the disparity in access to dental care to under-served communities. In addition to staff at NWRESD, the effort includes representatives from community-based health centers, school district superintendents, dental distributors, and G.A.P.S. Foundation Board members in the two counties.

The project was kicked off in December with the donation of 200 dental kits from Henry Schein Company, a worldwide distributor of dental and other supplies. The kits -- containing toothpaste, tooth brushes and floss -- were distributed to young children who attend NWRESD's Early Intervention/Early Childhood programs, Head Start programs, and families who receive services from the Department of Human Services in Columbia and Tillamook counties.

According to NWRESD Tillamook pre-school teacher Linda Walker, "Students are having success in learning how to brush their teeth independently. With a generous donation from Henry Schein, each student has their own toothbrush and toothpaste. Each day after eating, the students clean up their place at the table and brush their teeth. It's a great way to incorporate this life skill into their daily routine."

Next on the list: Securing equipment to help community-based health centers in Columbia County setup small, volunteer-staffed dental clinics.

This evening, Thursday January 24, 2013, at 7:35 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the report of a stabbing at Southwest 49th Avenue and Dickinson Street.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and contacted the 18-year-old male victim who was suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds. He was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment.

Officers learned that the victim got into a verbal altercation with some men, mexicans ,one of whom stabbed him.

The suspects are described as Hispanic males Generic Illegal Mexicans  and they left the scene in a blue minivan.

Anyone with information about this stabbing is asked to contact Assault detectives at (503) 823-0400.
