ARRESTED
April 10, 2013 -- Sheriff's Detectives arrested a man who had been sexually abusing a horse. Detectives believe this had been occurring for eight months.
On April 10, 2013, Washington County Sheriff's Detectives arrested Tony Hall-Rivas, 47, at his residence, located at 47570 NW Sunset Highway in the community of Manning. Mr. Hall-Rivas is a suspect in multiple incidents where he trespassed into a barn and sexually abused a gelding horse.
Detectives believe Mr. Hall-Rivas began the abuse as far back as September, 2012. In October, 2012, Sheriff's Detectives had evidence to believe that someone was repeatedly sexually abusing the horse but they could not identity the person. Detectives were becoming more concerned as the abuser became bolder with the frequency of his activity. He was spooked away by the horse's owner on several occasions.
During the investigation, detectives found various items of evidence left in the barn and along the suspect's escape path. Detectives were able to obtain a hat that they submitted to the Oregon State Police Crime Lab for possible DNA analysis. On April 9, 2013, detectives received a positive match from the DNA on the hat. They indentified Tony Hall-Rivas as the suspect.
Today, at 4:03 p.m., Washington County Sheriff's Detectives along with the Washington County Criminal Apprehension Team, arrested Mr. Hall-Rivas at his residence without incident.
Tony Hall-Rivas was lodged in the Washington County Jail charged with five counts of Trespassing, five counts of Second Degree Burglary, and eight counts of Sexual Abuse of an Animal. He is being held on $20,000 bail. Tony Hall-Rivas is also known as Antonio Jose Rivas-Hall.
