Officers arrived at the location to find the suspect being detained by one of the residents, 21-year-old Kyler Pulfrey. The suspect, 21-year-old Pedro Santiago Machi-Menchu of Vancouver (WA), was placed into handcuffs and taken out of the home. Pulfrey told police that he went to check on three children and found the suspect attempting to sexually assault a 6-year-old, whom does not live at the residence. The girl is the Goddaughter of another resident of the home. Pulfrey told police that he pulled the suspect off of the child and physically struggled with him and dragged him into the living room as the female resident called 9-1-1. It is believed that the suspect entered through an open bedroom window. Child Abuse Team detectives responded to conduct an investigation into the incident and ultimately charged the suspect with Burglary in the First Degree and Attempted Sex Abuse in the First Degree. He was treated for his injuries at a Portland hospital before being booked into jail. Although this is a stranger-to-stranger assault, the Portland Police Bureau would like to remind community members that cases like this are extremely rare.
