Beaverton Officers were called to the report of personal information files that had been placed inside of a dumpster. Officers located the dumpster and found it to contain a large number of files containing the personal information belonging to clients of Sylvan Learning Center located at 12225 SW 2nd Street. Officers were initially unable to make contact with anyone associated with the Sylvan Learning Center and therefore took possession of the files, amounting to 7 large boxes. The files contained personal information that included full names, dates of birth, social security numbers, and in some cases copies of credit cards. It was later determined that employees of the business placed the files in the dumpster as a method of disposing them. This case, and the contents of the 7 boxes, has been turned over to The Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) for investigation. For information on possible violations and penalties, you can contact the Public Information Officer for DCBS, Cheryl Martinis, at 503.947.7897. Beaverton Police are encouraging people who have ever submitted personal information to this business to check their accounts and credit ratings now and again in the future to ensure they have not been the victim of Identity Theft. *** Photos Attached ***
